What do black jaguars eat?

Black jaguars, which are actually just melanistic (black fur) jaguars, have the same diet as regular jaguars. They are carnivores and primarily prey on:

* Ungulates: Deer, peccaries, tapirs, and even young cattle.

* Other Mammals: Smaller mammals like rodents, monkeys, and sloths.

* Reptiles and Amphibians: Caimans, turtles, snakes, and frogs.

* Fish: Occasionally, jaguars will fish in rivers and lakes.

Their hunting style is ambush-based, relying on their stealth and powerful jaws to take down prey.
