How does the fetus obtain food and oxygen?
The fetus receives food and oxygen from the mother through the placenta. The placenta is an organ that forms in the uterus during pregnancy. It is formed from both maternal and fetal tissue. The placenta connects the mother's blood supply to the baby's blood supply. This allows oxygen and nutrients from the mother's blood to be transferred to the baby's blood. It also allows for waste products from the baby's blood to be passed to the mother's blood.
