What do cockles fed on?
Cockles are bivalve mollusks that feed on microscopic food particles present in the water column. They use their gills to filter suspended food particles such as algae, plankton, organic detritus, and other microscopic organisms. Cockles are considered filter feeders, and their diet primarily consists of phytoplankton, which are microscopic plant organisms that drift in the water. Additionally, they may also ingest small zooplankton, such as copepods, and other organic matter found in the water. By filtering water and consuming these microscopic organisms, cockles obtain the necessary nutrients and energy for growth and reproduction.
