How do panda bears find there food?
Panda bears rely primarily on their keen sense of smell to find their food. Pandas have a unique "false thumb" (a modified wrist bone) that aids in gripping bamboo. While it's true that pandas occasionally feed on other sources such as grasses, birds, insects, honey, or rodents, bamboo makes up 99% of their diet. They use their false thumbs to break bamboo stalks, shred leaves, and extract soft, nutrient-rich tissue from within the bamboo stems. Pandas cover vast distances as they roam bamboo forests, relying on their sharp sense of smell to locate patches of their preferred bamboo species, including Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and Arrow bamboo (Phyllostachys heterocycla).
