Pandas have a highly specialized diet that consists almost exclusively of bamboo. Bamboo is a type of grass that grows in abundance in the forests where pandas live. Pandas have a long digestive tract and a special bone in their wrist called a "pseudo-thumb" that helps them grasp bamboo stalks. They spend a significant portion of their day foraging for bamboo and can consume up to 30 pounds of it per day.
In addition to bamboo, pandas may also eat other plants, such as grasses, fruits, and insects. However, bamboo makes up the vast majority of their diet and is essential for their survival.
