Is a baby kangaroo attached to its nipple?

A baby kangaroo, also known as a joey, is firmly attached to one of the mother's nipples inside her pouch from the moment it enters the pouch after it is born. The joey will use its mouth and forelimbs to grasp and hold onto the nipple while suckling for nutrition and milk. Joey stays attached to the nipple for several months before gradually becoming more independent and venturing out of the pouch.
