They specifically prefer areas with:
* Open understory: This allows them to easily forage for termites, their primary food source.
* Plenty of fallen logs: Numbats use these logs for shelter and nesting.
* Well-drained sandy soils: These soils are ideal for the termite mounds that numbats rely on.
While they prefer these areas, they can also be found in other habitats like heathlands, shrublands, and even gardens as long as there is a sufficient termite population.
