Where does the hedgehog make its home for winter?

Hedgehogs don't make a new home for winter, they hibernate in their existing home! They typically choose a place that is warm, dry, and sheltered from the elements, such as:

* A pile of leaves: This is a common choice, as leaves provide insulation and protection.

* Underneath a log or rock: These offer a similar level of protection as leaf piles.

* An old shed or outbuilding: Hedgehogs may seek refuge in these structures if they are available.

* A compost heap: The warmth and protection of a compost heap can be appealing.

Hedgehogs will make their winter nest cozy by lining it with leaves, grass, and moss for extra insulation.
