What Type of Bedding Do Ferrets Need?

Ferrets are playful pets that enjoy interacting and playing with their owners. Many ferrets do not enjoy being caged in the whole day and prefer running around the house. These pets are affectionate and need constant attention from their owners. For bedding, ferrets do not need any special or particular type of bedding. Most enjoy something that keeps them warm when it cold. The bedding you use for your ferret also depends on where they are kept.

  1. Old Clothing

    • If you have old shirts you no longer wear, you can give this to your ferret as bedding. The soft material will warm your ferret when it is cold and it will enjoy dragging the cloth around to new hiding places to sleep. Your old clothes are also a beneficial option since they can be washed and reused. If you do not have any old clothes lying around but wish to give your ferret cloth bedding, visit a thrift store to find some old shirts. It will be budget-friendly as well. You can line the bottom of your ferret's cage with the old cloth as well. The best types of cloth are cotton or wool. Any other materials that contain beads or sequins may be hazardous to your pet.

    Ferret Hammocks

    • Hang a ferret hammock in your pet's cage. This hammock will provide entertainment and also a sleeping place away from the bottom of the cage. Your ferret will be suspended in the air while he naps and sleeps. Ferrets enjoy peeking out of places and while your ferret is in its cage, it will have something to play with while you are away.

    Plush Bedding

    • You can specifically purchase plush bedding for your ferret. It looks similar to a sleeping bag but smaller. Some plush pockets have double fur or fleece that will keep your ferret extra warm during cold nights. You can decide whether or not you wish to place the plush pocket in your ferret's cage or outside around your apartment. That way, when your ferret tires itself out from playing it can just simply climb into the pocket and take a nap.

    Cages

    • Keeping your ferret in a cage while you are away or asleep will keep it safe from harm. However make sure that the bottom of the cage has a plastic bottom for easy clean-up and coated wires to prevent rust. Make sure the cage you have is spacious, especially if you have more than one ferret. Look into tiered ferret cages if you are looking to expand your ferret family.
