How do Mountain Pygmy Possums move?

1. Climbing

Mountain Pygmy Possums are skilled climbers and spend most of their time in the trees. They have sharp claws and a long prehensile tail that helps them grip branches and navigate through the canopy. They can climb vertically, horizontally, and even upside down.

2. Gliding

Mountain Pygmy Possums are also capable of gliding. They have a flap of skin between their forelimbs and hindlimbs called a patagium. When they spread their limbs, the patagium acts like a parachute, allowing them to glide through the air. They can glide for distances of up to 10 meters (33 feet).

3. Walking and Running

Mountain Pygmy Possums can also walk and run on the ground. They have long hind legs that allow them to hop or bound. They can run quite quickly for short distances.

4. Swimming

Mountain Pygmy Possums are also good swimmers. They have been known to swim across small streams and rivers. They use their strong limbs and tail to propel themselves through the water.
