Why are northern sportive lemur endangered?

* Habitat loss: The northern sportive lemur is found in a small area of northern Madagascar, which is one of the most deforested regions in the world. As the forest is cleared for agriculture, logging, and other development, the northern sportive lemur loses its habitat and food sources.

* Hunting: The northern sportive lemur is hunted for its meat and fur. It is also sometimes killed by farmers and villagers because it is perceived as a pest.

* Climate change: Climate change is also a threat to the northern sportive lemur. As the climate changes, the lemur's habitat becomes less suitable for survival. The lemur is also more vulnerable to disease and other health problems as a result of climate change.

All of these factors have contributed to the decline of the northern sportive lemur population. The lemur is now listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
