How does a raccoon get rabid?
Raccoons can get rabies by being bitten or scratched by another infected animal, such as a skunk, fox, or bat. The rabies virus is transmitted through saliva, and it can enter the raccoon's body through any open wound. Once the virus has entered the raccoon's body, it travels to the brain and begins to cause damage. Rabies can cause a variety of symptoms in raccoons, including aggression, restlessness, foaming at the mouth, and paralysis. If a human is bitten or scratched by a rabid raccoon, they may also develop rabies.
