What kind of den do raccoons have?

Raccoons are very adaptable and don't have one specific type of den. They'll use whatever is available and suits their needs. Here are some common types of raccoon dens:

* Tree cavities: They often choose hollowed-out tree trunks, especially those with a large opening and a sheltered interior.

* Abandoned buildings: Raccoons may take over attics, barns, sheds, and other structures, especially if they offer protection and easy access to food.

* Underground burrows: Sometimes they dig their own burrows, or take over existing ones made by other animals like woodchucks or foxes.

* Other places: They've been known to use rock crevices, storm drains, even piles of brush or debris.

The most important factor for a raccoon den is security and protection from predators and the elements. They'll choose a den that provides a dry, safe place to sleep, raise their young, and escape from danger.
