How to Make Toys to Keep a Ferret Happy

Ferrets love to explore the world around them and almost anything can be turned into a toy. They enjoy toys that make noise and like to hide things all over the house. Ferrets love tunnels and any container can turn into a game of "hide and seek." Inventing homemade toys for your ferret is cheap entertainment for you and your pet. Ferrets get as much enjoyment---or more---out of homemade toys as they would from store-bought toys.

Search around the house to find ideas for ferret toys. Ferrets love things that rattle and shake, anything that resembles a ball and places to hide. Old children's toys, the cardboard from a paper towel or toilet paper roll and many craft supplies all make great ferret toys.

Give your ferrets your old sneakers and shoes. Smelly old shoes make great hiding places, and ferrets love to horde their toys in them. Ferrets also use old shoes to tunnel in and enjoy the stench of the shoe.

    • 3

Create a tent or tunnel with old sheets and towels. Ferrets like to play "hide and seek" and search dark spaces for fun. They can spend hours playing tug of war with hand towels and will play with humans or each other.

Put a bell, some rice or dry beans in to an old medicine bottle. According to the Ferret World website, ferrets love to play with toys that are noisy. Watch them roll the medicine bottle around trying to figure out how to get into it. Make sure the cap is on tight so they cannot open it.

Give your ferret an old, mismatched sock. An old tube sock is fun for tug of war, or ball it up and throw it for the ferret to chase. Tuck something into the sock and let the ferret search for it. According to Ferret World website, ferrets will play with old socks for hours.
