What to Use As Ferret Bedding

Ferrets are lovable, playful pets. They like to interact and play with their owners. They will not be contented to stay in a cage the whole day. Ferrets need constant attention and affection from their owners. Ferrets, however, do not need special bedding. They just need something to keep them warm during cold nights. The type of bedding to use for ferrets also depends on whether they are kept inside or outside the house.

  1. Habitat

    • Ferrets must be kept safe at night in a cage. Ferrets tend to be playful, so they must not be kept unsupervised, especially at night when everybody in the house is asleep. Keeping ferrets in a cage at night is for your and the ferret's safety.

      Buy cages that have a plastic bottom for easy clean-up. Cages with coated wires are also good because they do not rust easily. If you have more than one ferret in the house, you can purchase multi-level cages, but be sure the ferrets have enough room inside. Ferrets do not like crowded cages, and they do not like to be locked up for too long. Ferret cages are just meant to keep the ferrets safe and out of trouble during the night or when everybody is out of the house.

    Old Clothing

    • Old clothing is ideal ferret bedding, for a variety of reasons. It allows you to make use of material that might otherwise be discarded. Cloth is also warmer and softer than other forms of bedding material, and it can be washed and reused as long as it is only slightly soiled.

      Any old cloth makes good bedding for your ferret. Almost everyone has old clothing that is no longer worn. Additional clothing can be purchased from yard sales and thrift stores for pennies, which is a huge savings over the cost of other types of bedding. Simply cut the cloth into small strips and place it into the bottom of the cage. Ferrets also love to have sweatshirt sleeves to crawl into, so you might want to keep at least one sleeve as a toy for your ferret.

    Ferret Hammock

    • Your pet ferret can play and sleep in the ferret hammock. Ferrets love to snuggle inside the hammock and play with a toy. They find this very entertaining. Ferret hammocks are also perfect for sleeping. Your ferret will be all warm and cozy while sleeping inside the hammock.
