Fun Ferret Games

Ferrets are one of the most playful small pets a person can own. It is believed that people have kept ferrets as pets for at least 2,500 years, and have probably been having fun with them since then. Ferrets are an active animal, so it is important to help them stay active by playing with them. There are several games that ferrets will play, but some of them are just more fun than others.
  1. Ferret Water Slide

    • Purchase a section of PVC pipe from your local hardware store. Ensure it is at least 4 inches in diameter; a 5-foot section would work perfectly. Prop one end of the pipe on your couch leading down to the floor (not too steep). Add one drop of Ferretone or other skin and coat supplement and launch your ferret down the tube.

    Ferret Mining

    • Fill your ferret's dig box with safe, non-toxic material. If you do not have a dig box, you can make a simple one by filling an empty cardboard box with whatever non-toxic material you choose to use, which can include shredded paper, long grain rice or non-toxic starch packing peanuts. Place your ferret's toys deep into the material and let him loose. Ferrets are instinctive diggers and love to tunnel. Watch as your ferret enjoys doing what he was built to do while finding his favorite toys at the same time.

    Trampoline Time

    • Put your ferret or ferrets on your bed. It is best to have a friend help you with this game. Use the blankets or sheets to toss your ferret up into the air. You can also flip them over and even play a little rough with them. Ferrets enjoy roughhousing, but remember they do have a limit, so be careful not to harm your pet.

    Cave of Wonders

    • Hang onto a pair of old jeans instead of trashing or donating them. Cut off one of the legs from the jeans. Lay this leg out on the floor. Pick up one end of the pant leg and let the ferret do as he pleases. He may choose to just climb up on the pant leg, at which point you can drag him around the room. He'll enjoy himself more if he crawls into the leg, so you may want to give him a start in the right direction.

    Ferr-ari

    • Use small remote control cars to drive around and tease your ferret. Your ferret will chase it around the room and even attack it. This can be quite exciting for the ferret and its owner. It's like a little game of cat and mouse. Make sure to do a once over on the car before playing with your ferret to make sure there are no loose parts that may come off and be eaten by your buddy.

    Bobbing for Ferrets

    • Fill your bathtub with 3 to 4 inches of lukewarm water. Toss in several ping pong balls or other balls that will float. Simply add your ferret to the mixture and watch him enjoy himself. You can also use your hand to play around with the ferret while he's in the water, pushing the ping pong balls around for him and making a few waves.

    Ole!

    • Get a small, clean towel that you don't mind your ferret playing with. A hand towel would work perfectly. Sit down on a slick floor, most likely your kitchen floor. Hold the towel out in front of your ferret, starting a few feet away from him to give him a running start. He will come after the towel and grab onto it. Now you can spin him around on the slick floor.

    The Labyrinth

    • Place a large cardboard box onto the floor -- an old box that a refrigerator came in is perfect. Cut a few holes on the walls of the box, both large enough and low enough for the ferret to enter. Add a few smaller cardboard boxes that also have holes cut into them into the larger box. Place your ferret at one of the holes and watch him enjoy himself.
