Remove food from your pet ferret's feeding bowls. Disinfect food and water bowls by scrubbing them with a mild antibacterial soap and washing and rinsing them every day. Make sure that the soap has been completely rinsed off the food bowls to avoid accidental poisoning. Dry the bowls with a hand towel or in the sun before replenishing food and water.
Scoop excrement from litter box trays twice daily with cat litter scoopers. Wash litter pans at least once a week with a mild antibacterial soap and hot water. Failing to wash your litter pans at regular intervals can cause your pet ferret to become ill with a bacterial infection.
Wash your pet ferret's bedding. Tossing your pet ferret's bedding, hammocks and stuffed toys into a washing machine at least once a week gives your pet ferret clean sleeping material and minimizes natural ferret odor. Use a fragrance-free, neutral and allergy-free detergent.
Scrub the pet ferret cage down with hot water and a special pet cage cleaning solution at least once a month. Antibacterial soap may be used in lieu of the cage cleaner; use a mild antibacterial soap that does not contain ingredients that can harm your pet ferret. Pay special attention to the sides, ramps and bottom of the cage. Dry the cage with a towel or allow the cage to dry in the sun before putting your pet ferret back into its cage.
