Why are ferrets regarded as a pest?

Ferrets are not typically considered a pest, although they can be when they are introduced into an area where they are not native and compete with native species for food and habitat. Ferrets are native to Europe, Asia, and Africa and were introduced to North America and Australia by humans. In these areas, ferrets can prey on native wildlife, including birds and small mammals, and compete with native predators for food. Ferrets can also damage crops and property by burrowing and chewing.
