Is a raccoon scared of people?

While it is true that raccoons are often portrayed as being fearful of humans in popular culture, their actual behavior can vary depending on a number of factors. Raccoons are generally nocturnal and solitary animals, and they typically avoid contact with humans. However, if a raccoon feels threatened or cornered, it may exhibit aggressive behavior as a means of self-defense. Raccoons have sharp teeth and claws, and they can deliver painful bites and scratches if they feel threatened.

In general, raccoons are more likely to be afraid of humans than humans are of them. However, there are a few things you can do to help avoid an encounter with a raccoon:

- Do not leave food outside, as this can attract raccoons and other wildlife.

- Keep your garbage cans covered and secure, as raccoons can easily knock over or open garbage cans.

- If you see a raccoon, do not approach it. Give it plenty of space and allow it to move away on its own.

- If you are bitten or scratched by a raccoon, seek medical attention immediately.
