Will a claws grow back?

Claws and nails are made of a tough, fibrous protein called keratin. They consist of dead cells packed together to form a strong, protective covering for the fingers and toes. Unlike hair, which can grow back if cut, claws and nails do not regenerate continuously. When a claw or nail is damaged or shed, a new one will eventually form underneath it, but this process can take weeks or months.

In the meantime, the damaged or missing claw or nail can provide a point of entry for bacteria and other pathogens, leading to infection. It is therefore important to keep claws and nails trimmed and clean to avoid injury and infection.
