How long does it take to grow a walrus mustache?

Walruses don't grow mustaches! They grow whiskers, which are actually long, stiff hairs called vibrissae.

These vibrissae are very sensitive and help walruses detect prey in the murky water and navigate their surroundings. They don't serve any purpose in looking cool or fashionable, unlike human mustaches!

The growth rate of walrus whiskers is not something that has been extensively studied, but it's likely they grow continuously throughout their lives, just like human hair.
