Why is a grizzly bear sometimes called silver tip?
The grizzly bear (_Ursus arctos horribilis_) can sometimes be called a silvertip due to the white or 'silvery' tips of its long guard hairs. These guard hairs are present in addition to the dense underfur that provides insulation. The silver tips, which are a characteristic of grizzlies in certain regions such as western Canada and Alaska, give the bear a frosted or silvery appearance, providing it with a stunning and distinct look.
