What is a ringtail?

Ringtail can refer to either of the two following animals :

- North American Ringtail- Bassariscus astutus:

A carnivorous, solitary mammal and nocturnal procyonid

native to arid regions of southwestern United States and Mexico.

It is characterized by distinctive, black tail that is banded

with several creamy white rings near the end.

- Australian Ringtail Possum – Pseudocheirus peregrinus :

A medium sized marsupial also called common or grey ringtail and is

native to eastern costal Australia and is common in eucalyptus

woodlands. This possum indeed carries distinctive, grippy and a prehensile

tail used as a fifth limb with no fur in the central to distal part , giving a ringtailed appearance , hence their name .
