What breed did the Thoroughbred descend from?

The Thoroughbred breed descends from three foundation sires:

* Byerley Turk: A Turkish stallion captured during the Siege of Buda in 1688.

* Darley Arabian: A Arabian stallion imported into England in 1704.

* Godolphin Arabian: Another Arabian stallion, imported into England in 1724.

These three stallions were bred with native English mares, creating the foundation of the Thoroughbred breed.
