Different Breeds of Arabian Horses

The Arabian horse is one of the earliest breeds of horse. This breed is valued for its pace, good looks, strength, cleverness and calmness. The breed was developed in the seventh century, in Arabia. The long history of the breed has become a legend. Arabian horses are known for their appearance with heads that look like wedges, broad foreheads with large eyes and nostrils, and small muzzles. There are a number of light, modern breeds that have been developed from the Arabian horse, choosing its best qualities. The breeds created from Arabian horses were such that they could withstand the extreme climatic conditions of the deserts. Some of the important breeds of these horses are Kehilan, Seglawi, Abeyan and Hamdani.
  1. Kehilan Breed

    • The Kehilan is one of the breeds developed from the Arabian horse. The Kehilan breed was well known for its deep chest. It has great masculine power and size. The Kehilan stood up to about 15 hands. Much like the Arabian horse, the heads of Kehilan were short, and had broad foreheads. They had great, wide jaws. They are commonly seen in gray and chestnut colors.

    Seglawi and the Abeyan Breeds

    • The Seglawi were very well known for their refinement. Unlike the Kehilans which were masculine in nature, the Seglawi carried a great feminine elegance. This was a very fast horse breed. However, the breed does not possess much endurance. They also had fine boning. They were seen with longer faces and also constitute longer necks when compared to the the Kehilan. The average height of the Seglawi is 14.2 hands. This breed is usually found in bay colors. The Abeyan breed is also quite similar to the Seglawi breed. They habe a longer back when compared to other Arabian horses, and are almost the same height as the Seglawi breed. They were normally of gray color with more white markings than the other breeds.

    Hamdani Breed

    • The Hamdani horses are considered to be normal and plain. They are built with an athletic look. They are very masculine, and had large boning. The heads of the Hamdani breed are straight in profile. The Hadmani was one of the tallest or rather largest breeds of Arabian horses, standing at about 15.2 hands. They are normally seen in gray or bay colors.

    Hadban Breed

    • The Hadban breed was quite comparable to the Hamdani breed, only that they were a little smaller than the Hamdani. They had big bones and were very muscular. They were very gentle in nature. The Hadban was about 14.3 hands tall, and they were normally seen in brown or bay color. Some of them had a few white markings.
