Be aware that finding and buying an Arabian horse may not be as hard as you think. In nearly every state there are Arabian breeders, and with the use of the Internet in today's market, it is much easier to locate, purchase and even ship an Arabian horse that it has ever been. What is more, Arabians do not cost more than other horses. This is a common misconception that usually turns people away from what can be the most joyful purchase of their lives.

Do your research. Use the Internet to find breeders that are near you. Go to an equine classified site (there are too many to list: search under "Horses for Sale") and then do a search on that site by state and breed. Another way is to pick up your local Sunday paper and browse under the "Horses for Sale" section.

Decide on a farm and call to make an appointment to visit. Anyone legitimate will be more than happy to have you come to their farm and have a hands on experience. Visit the farm. Handle the horses. Make sure they are well cared for, healthy and that you have a good rapport with the owners. It is highly likely you will need them as you learn about your new horse. So it is important that you not only have a good relationship with the horse you intend to purchase, but the people who are selling the horse to you.

Take your time. Do not be rushed into a purchase. One tricky thing about buying an Arabian is making sure the paperwork is in order. If you want papers on your horse, and in the Arabian world, papers are very important, then you need to make sure that the papers match the horse, that there are no signatures outstanding and that you call the Arabian Horse Association and verify all paperwork is in order before you make the purchase. Once money has changed hands, you are stuck--so be sure it is taken care of beforehand.
