How to Make a Safe Cake Treat for Your Horse

Horses are much like humans in the sense that they like some treats on occasion as much as we do. They can also be notoriously picky about their food, which can sometimes make it difficult to find a treat that a handful of barn-mates will all eat.Fortunately, there's a very easy recipe that is not only quick and easy to make, but it's customizable to whatever your particular horse's tastes are. Therefore, it's very easy to make a variety of treats in different flavors with a minimum of time and effort. We're going to look at how to do it.

Things You'll Need

  • A 9x9 cake pan
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Any extra flavoring you would like to include (This is the custom part!)

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

    • 2

Mix the flour, sugar, and whatever solid treats you decide to mix in with the cake. Some great things to try are grated carrots, diced apples, or even crushed peppermints.

    • 3

      Mix in the vegetable oil.

    • 4

Stir until completely mixed. The mix should be the consistency of oatmeal cookie dough; you may need to add a bit more flour or a bit more vegetable oil.

    • 5

Put the mixture into the cake pan, and flatten to fill the bottom of the pan.

    • 6

Bake for at least 15 minutes. The result should be crunchy but not burnt; if you added more ingredients, it may be necessary to bake longer.

    • 7

Allow to cool, then cut into squares. Then feed to your horse as a special treat!
