What does an aardvark eat?

Aardvarks are insectivores, meaning they primarily eat insects. Their diet consists of:

* Termites: This is their favorite food! Aardvarks have a powerful sense of smell that helps them locate termite mounds. They use their strong claws to tear open the mounds and their long sticky tongues to slurp up the termites.

* Ants: Similar to termites, aardvarks also eat ants.

* Other invertebrates: They may occasionally eat other invertebrates like earthworms, beetles, and caterpillars.

While they primarily eat insects, they are opportunistic feeders and may also consume:

* Fruits: They have been known to eat fruit, especially during the fruit season.

* Small mammals: In rare cases, they may eat small rodents or other small mammals.

Important Note: Aardvarks are not herbivores, and their digestive system is not designed to break down plant matter. While they might nibble on fruits, insects are their primary food source.
