Here's the deal:
* Male seahorses are the ones who carry the eggs. The female seahorse lays her eggs into a pouch on the male's belly. He fertilizes them and then carries them until they hatch.
* He protects and cares for his young. The male seahorse is a very dedicated father. He provides the developing babies with oxygen and nutrients through the pouch, and he keeps them safe from predators.
* Once the babies hatch, they're on their own. They are tiny and vulnerable, but they are able to fend for themselves.
