Here's why:
* The male seahorse has a pouch on his belly. This pouch is where the female seahorse deposits her eggs.
* The male seahorse fertilizes the eggs and carries them for several weeks until they hatch.
* The male seahorse provides the eggs with oxygen and nutrients while they are developing.
So, the mother seahorse doesn't do anything with the eggs after she lays them. She passes the responsibility to the father, who is much better equipped to care for them.
