Instructions
Buy stabilized rice bran, which is fortified with vitamin E to keep it from going rancid due to its high fat content, if you don't intend on using it all in a week or less. A warm or humid climate will also accelerate rancidity. Buy powder or pellets depending on your horse's preferences.
Feed the horse 1 or 2 lbs. of rice bran per day for the best results. Don't feed the horse more than 2 lbs. of rice bran per day.
Supplement the rice bran with high-calorie feed, such as alfalfa hay.
Continue feeding the horse rice bran for four to five weeks to see the benefits.
How to Feed Rice Bran for Weight Gain
Rice bran is a byproduct of the milling process that converts brown rice to white rice. It's a supplement for feeding horses as it's 20 percent fat, 1 percent fiber and 8 percent protein. Rice bran provides horses with extra fat, energy, and vitamin E, and horse owners commonly use it to help an underweight horse pack on some pounds.
