How to Make a Homemade Treat Ball for Horses

Things You'll Need

  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 glass with a flat bottom
  • 2 cookie sheets
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bran
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup grated carrot or apple
  • Brown sugar (for dipping)
  • Vegetable oil (for greasing the cookie sheets)

      Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and use the vegetable oil to grease both cookie sheets.

      Fill the small bowl with brown sugar.

      If the ingredients aren't sticking together, add more flour, which will make the mixture more firm and dry.

      Mix the flour, bran, molasses and carrot (or apple) together in a large bowl. The mixture should stick together and should not be runny.

      The larger the balls you roll, the more time they'll take baking in the oven.

      Roll the mixture into balls, and set onto the cookie sheets, approximately 1 1/2 inches apart.

      Grease the bottom of the glass with vegetable oil, dip each piece into the small bowl of sugar and flatten the balls slightly into patties. Bake for 10 minutes, or until crunchy. Makes about 25 cookies, depending on the size. Store in refrigerator.
