How do pipi eat?

Pipis, also known as clams or surf clams, are filter feeders. They use their siphons to draw in water and filter out food particles, such as plankton, algae, and other small organisms. The water is expelled through the excurrent siphon, and the food particles are trapped in the clam's gills. The gills then pass the food particles to the clam's mouth, where they are ingested.

Pipis can also use their siphons to burrow into the sand or mud. This helps them to avoid predators and to find food. When a pipi burrows, it uses its foot to anchor itself to the substrate and then extends its siphons. The siphons are used to draw in water and expel it, which loosens the sand or mud. The pipi then uses its foot to pull itself down into the burrow.

Pipis are important members of the marine ecosystem. They help to filter the water and provide food for other animals, such as fish, birds, and marine mammals.
