Can you feed sunn hemp to horses?

Sunn hemp (Crotolaria juncea) is not a suitable feed for horses. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which are toxic to horses and can cause liver damage. Symptoms of PA toxicity can include weight loss, weakness, jaundice, and photosensitization. In severe cases, PA toxicity can be fatal.

While sunn hemp is not typically grown as a forage crop for horses, it can sometimes be found in hayfields or pastures. If you are unsure whether or not a particular hay or pasture contains sunn hemp, it is best to err on the side of caution and avoid feeding it to your horse.
