Feeding Rice Bran Oil to a Horse

Rice brain oil is extracted from rice during its processing, when the outer hull and then multiple layers are removed. Both rice bran and rice bran oil are commonly used as supplements for horses. Rice bran oil adds sheen to a horse's coat and provides antioxidants and Vitamin E. Feed your horse rice bran oil by combining it with other yummy treats.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your horse's daily feed as normal. If your horse doesn't get daily feed, start with something gentle and appropriate to his lifestyle. Wheat bran will not cause any weight or energy gain and has no adverse effects, so it's a good place to start. Put two to three scoops of bran into a bucket and add water until all of the bran is wet. Stir. You should have a fairly soupy mixture rather than stiff bran.

    • 2

Shake the bottle of rice bran oil to mix it. Add 2 to 8 ounces of the oil to your horse's feed. Decide on the quantity based on her needs: 2 ounces for a shinier coat, 4 ounces for weight gain, or 8 ounces for a maximum combination of the two.

    • 3

Stir the oil into the feed and set it out for your horse. Repeat the process daily. Decrease or increase the amount of rice brain oil according to your horse's needs and results.
