Things You'll Need
- Horse shampoo
- Mane comb
- Mane tamer
- Hair gel
- Water
Instructions
Wash the pony's mane at least once every two weeks. If the mane continually sticks up, wash it once a week. Begin washing at the base of the mane and work outward, using circular massage strokes. Rinse the mane thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Work your hands through the pony's mane to untangle large knots.
Brush the mane using a comb with wide-spaced, flexible bristles and round tips. Begin brushing from the mane tips to the top to relieve smaller tangles, then brush from the mane's base to the tips using long sweeps.
Place a tamer over the pony's mane and leave it attached for a couple of hours. Tamers lie flat on the mane and attach underneath the pony's neck. Ensure the tamer fits snugly. You can attach the tamer when the mane is still wet.
Remove the mane tamer and dilute one part hair gel in one part lukewarm water. Dip the mane comb in this solution and brush the pony's mane using the same technique in Step 3.
