How to Braid a Pinwheel

Braiding a pinwheel is the last part to creating a complete set for your show horse. First French braid your horse's hair, then follow the instructions below to learn how to braid a pinwheel. This style of braiding is commonly seen at hunter and jumper shows.

      Braid a pigtail, then split the hair into two non-braided sections. Each section should have a strand of yarn.

      Roll the braided pigtail into a tight coil. The strands that you split should be on either side, outside of the coil. When the coil is fully rolled up, use the yarn to tie a basic knot under the coil, or pinwheel.

      Tie another knot by bringing the strands together and tying about the coil, against the French braid. Repeat this step and step 2 a couple of times, then cut off the extra string.
