How to Make Parade Bouquets for a Horse

Horses are a beautiful, majestic sight in parades, and flowers woven into their manes and tails make them even more festive. Flowers are the perfect decorations for horses because, like horses, they are often used to represent the innate beauty of nature. There are benefits to using either fresh or fake flowers. Fresh flowers will appear more genuine, obviously, and give a scent. However, fake flowers are convenient, because they hold up longer, and do not wilt.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the stem off the flower, so that there is only about 1 to 2 inches remaining.

    • 2

Tape an end of the pipe cleaner to the remaining stem, starting the end of the pipe cleaner from the end of the cut stem. The long end will extend past the petals of the bloom.

    • 3

Fold the pipe cleaner at the very base of the flower and twist it around the taped section, so that the tape will not show.

    • 4

Cut the pipe cleaner and stem to the length desired. The length of 5-inches is a good standard, although you may need a longer stem, if you wish to twist the flower around a larger piece of hair -- or if you wish to leave ends of pipe cleaner stem trailing for artistic effect.

    • 5

Make bunches of flower in this way, form them into bouquets, and twist the pipe cleaner stems around each other, so that the bouquet will hold together.

    • 6

Twist the bouquets into the horse's mane and tail. Insert the pipe cleaner stems through a strand of hair, fold the pipe cleaner tightly around the strand, and twist it securely in place.
