How to Bring Out the Color in a Palamino Horse

Palomino horses are both easily identified and prized for their rich golden coat colors. According to the Palomino Horse Breeders Association, registered palomino horses are roughly the shade of a newly minted 14-karat gold United States coin. Variations can be both slightly lighter or slightly darker. As with any horse's coat, the way you care for your palomino affects the shade and luster of its coat. The better care and protection you give your horse's coat, the more the color will stand out.

Keep your horse out of the sunlight. Sun bleaches out palomino coats, so in order to maintain a strong coat color, it is essential to protect your horse from sun exposure. Turn palomino horses out at night, out in shady pastures or keep a UV-blocking sheet over them when they are out in the sun. Ride in covered arenas whenever possible.
