How do jerboas hunt?
Jerboas primarily eat seeds, but the larger species might feed on insects (mainly beetles, caterpillars, ants, flies) and other invertebrates, which they often hunt and sometimes store underground; small vertebrates are rarely part of the diet.[8] Jerboas hunt for insects while jumping or walking; some large gerbils are known to dig the sand, and catch or dig out beetles (such as darkling beetles); jerboas are active both day and night,[10] especially during dry nights in sandy areas.[11] They feed by holding food objects with forepaws like other rodents[5] and chew while seated on hind legs. Most species make burrows (which can be relatively short to several meters length); they might also use tree nests.
