Things You'll Need
- Fiberglass rolls
- Radiant barrier
- Foam board
- Polyurethane foam
Instructions
Use fiberglass. Apply fiberglass batting between the wall framing and the roof. Always cover fiberglass insulation with a rigid material, such as paneling, to prevent damage from animals making nests out of it.
Try a radiant barrier. Radiant barrier insulation comes in rolls and looks like bubble wrap that is covered in foil. This type of insulation should be applied between rafters or studs with a strong adhesive or staple gun.
Consider foam board. Foam board should be cut with a knife and attached to the inside of the girts with glue or roofing nails. Gaps that may be present between the framing and insulation board should be taped and covered by strong trim boards.
Apply polyurethane foam. This type of insulation comes in spray form and is sprayed on the interior surface of the siding and roof between the rafters and studs. It quickly dries and expands to provide an airtight and waterproof seal. This type of insulation is usually done by a professional; however, home kits are available.
Seek a professional. Although insulating a horse barn as a do-it-yourself project may seem cost-effective, unless you have extensive knowledge in doing so, get the advice of an insulation professional.
