How to Secure Horse Stalls to the Floor

Building horse stalls is a necessity for any horse owner. Being able to provide shelter for your equine companion is satisfying for the responsible horse owner and can be a matter of pride, as well. Building the stalls is only part of the equation. You need to be able to secure them properly to make sure they will last.

  • 4-by-4 posts
  • Concrete
  • Level
  • Spray paint
  • Measuring tape
  • Saw
  • Post-hole digger or auger
  • Water
  • Screws
  • Nails
  • Wire

      Measure out your stall on the ground and mark the corners with spray paint.

      Using a post-hole digger or an auger, dig a hole in each corner to the depth of at least 24 inches.

      Cut the 4-by-4 posts to fit from bottom of your post hole to the top of your stall or to the roof of your barn, whichever you prefer.

      Place the 4-by-4 posts inside the holes and then mix the cement. Pour the cement over the posts.

      Use the level to make sure the posts are set straight in the cement and allow them to dry for at least 72 hours.

      Use wire, nails or screws to secure the stall walls onto your corner posts. Secure them at the base, mid-level and top of the stall walls.
