How to Use Lime to Control Horse Stall Odors

Horse owners stall their horses or provide a shelter, called a lean-to. Horses quite often use these shelters for urination and defecation. The result is a dirty, ammonia-rich area with a strong, unpleasant odor and respiratory health risks for the horses and owners. This environment can also promote thrush, a condition of the hoof that has a strong odor. Lime is a useful product for controlling ammonia odors and protecting the hooves.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove feces and wet straw or wood chips.

    • 2

Push the clean straw or wood chips to a clean area of the shelter or stall.
