What is a habitat in Wyoming?

Alpine Tundra

The alpine tundra habitat is found in the highest elevations of Wyoming, above the treeline. It is characterized by a cold, harsh climate with short, cool summers and long, cold winters. The vegetation in this habitat is typically low-growing and includes mosses, lichens, and flowering plants. Animals that live in the alpine tundra include pikas, marmots, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats.

Rocky Mountains

The Rocky Mountains habitat is found in the western part of Wyoming. It is characterized by rugged mountains, deep valleys, and fast-flowing rivers. The vegetation in this habitat varies depending on the elevation, but it typically includes coniferous forests, aspen groves, and alpine meadows. Animals that live in the Rocky Mountains include elk, deer, moose, bears, and mountain lions.

Sagebrush Steppe

The sagebrush steppe habitat is found in the central and eastern parts of Wyoming. It is characterized by a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. The vegetation in this habitat is dominated by sagebrush, which is a type of shrub. Animals that live in the sagebrush steppe include pronghorn antelope, mule deer, sage grouse, and coyotes.

Shortgrass Prairie

The shortgrass prairie habitat is found in the southeastern part of Wyoming. It is characterized by a flat, rolling landscape with short, dry grasses. The vegetation in this habitat also includes wildflowers, cacti, and yucca plants. Animals that live in the shortgrass prairie include bison, pronghorn antelope, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets.
