How to Eliminate Scar Tissue on Horses

Horse massage and magnetic therapy are available treatments for reducing scar tissue in horses, but are most commonly performed by trained therapists. Moxa rolls are a cheaper alternative. They are used in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine to treat a variety of problems, with their benefits also translating to horses and scar tissue removal. Moxa rolls are shaped like cigars and consist of mugwort, an herb that produces a fragrant smoke when burned.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase moxa rolls from an alternative medicine or traditional Chinese herb store.

    • 2

Light the moxa roll and hold the heated end roughly 1 inch from the horse's skin -- causing warmth but not close enough to burn the horse. Make slow circular movements, working from the outside of the scar to the inside, and back out again.

    • 3

Repeat for 20 minutes daily for approximately two weeks, or until the scar's visibility diminishes or disappears.
