Sarcoids are benign cancerous lesions that appear on the thin skin of a horse's face, groin or genital areas. They can appear anywhere, especially if there has been a trauma to the area, but seem to prefer areas where the skin is thinnest and has little or no hair. They are caused by the bovine papilloma virus, according to LocalRiding.com in their article on the subject. Tea tree oil has been in use to treat them for many years, and meets with mixed reviews, but it is touted by many as a natural cure for these nasty tumors.
