How to Treat With Panacur (Fenbendazole) Dewormer

The directions for using Panacur deworming treatment will vary slightly, depending on which species of animal you are treating. Panacur is appropriate for both horses and dogs. Panacur for horses is safe for pregnant mares and foals. Dogs who are at least six months old may take Panacur twice yearly. Instructions

  1. Horses

    • 1

Consult with your horse's vet if it has any medical conditions or is taking other medications. Ask the vet if there is a possibility of adverse reactions by combining Panacur with other medications. If Panacur is safe for your horse to use, your vet will prescribe it for you.

    • 2

Open one Panacur pouch and mix it in with your horse's daily ration. The medicine is apple-cinnamon flavored so the horse will find it palatable.

    • 3

Offer Panacur to your horse one to two times yearly, or as your vet recommends.

    Dogs

    • 4

Bring your dog to its vet for an accurate diagnosis. If your vet determines that the dog needs a deworming treatment, he may prescribe Panacur.

    • 5

Follow your vet's dosing instructions carefully. Dosage is based on your dog's weight. For example, if your dog weighs 10 lbs., it will need a Panacur packet size of 1 g.

    • 6

Mix the appropriate dose of Panacur into your dog's regular food. If you mix Panacur into dry dog food, moisten the food slightly with water.

    • 7

Offer your dog Panacur once daily for three days. Dose at the same meal time. For example, if you offer the first dose in the morning, continue to do so for the next two days.
