Adequan is a drug administered by intramuscular injection. According to the Equine Performance Institute, Adequan works by lubricating the joints and reducing the inflammation. Because it is administered through intramuscular injection, Adequan affects all of the joints in the body. A number of drugs are similar to Adequan.

    • Espy also lists Hyalovet as being a common medication for joint health. Like Legend, Hyalovet is administered directly into the joints.

    Cosequin

    • Cosequin is an oral joint medication. According to Espy, Cosequin, which contains both glucosamine and chondritin, is frequently used as an oral supplement to the injected drugs.
