Things You'll Need
- Horse
- Polo wrap
Instructions
Examine the polo wrap for any damage or debris. Polo wraps are typically made of fleece material. Briers and other natural materials can easily become attached to the fleece. Wash the wraps, if necessary, before using to help prevent bacterial growth.
Position your horse on a flat and level surface. The horse should be able to stand square with all four legs even and supported on the ground.
Place the non-Velcro edge of the wrap on the inside of the horse's leg just below the knee. Begin wrapping the leg in a clockwise direction for a right leg and counterclockwise for a left leg. This is important as the wrap should pull the tendons in rather than pushing them out. Make two wraps around the top and then work the wrap down the leg at an angle.
When you reach the fetlock, or bony protrusion above the hoof, pull the wrap down and around. The top of the bone will be exposed. Bring the wrap back up and over the top of the fetlock. This will form an upside-down "V" at the front of the leg. Repeat the wrap around the fetlock once again for a total of two wraps.
Angle the wrap upward slightly and begin wrapping back up the leg, applying more tension than was previously used. Decrease the tension as you reach the top of the wrap. Finish off the polo wrap by securing the Velcro end of the wrap to the fleece wrap itself.
