Pull the horse̵7;s shoes if he is currently wearing any.
Trim your horse̵7;s hooves. Before fitting the horse with boots, make sure she has a proper trim. Tell your farrier about the problems the horse is having regarding navicular so that he may make the best judgment on how to trim the horse.
Fit the horse with boots. Most horses find immediate relief with boots. Boot should fit like a second skin over the hoof. Certain brands of boots will come with a ̶0;Fit Kit̶1; to help you appropriately fit your horse with boots. You also can ask your farrier how to properly fit a boot to your horse.
Let your horse loose in a safe enclosed area to make sure she isn̵7;t going to react to the boots, especially if this is his first time wearing them. Once you have determined that the horse is comfortable with the boots, you can make additional modifications to help custom fit the boot to your horse.
How to Treat Navicular With Hoof Boots
Veterinarians differ in their opinions of what causes navicular disease. According to Equine Natural Therapy, possible causes include fracture of the bone, tendonitis, reduced blood supply resulting from changes in the navicular bone and pathology of the coffin joint. Your veterinarian may recommend treating your horse̵7;s navicular syndrome with hoof boots.
